Ann Savoy’s new book: “CAJUN MUSIC – A Reflection of a People: Volume II – Includes Creole & Zydeco” is as beautiful in its layout, presentation, and design as 1984’s Volume I. Filled with additional rare old photos, song lyrics, and transcriptions in various languages, Volume II’s 400-plus pages contain a second photo of legendary Creole musician, Amede Ardoin, one of the most significant artists to make recordings in this regional genre’s near 100-year history. For those of us reaching to get a better understanding of how this music has continued to evolve, succeed and find its place even in contemporary southwest Louisiana’s musical landscape  – the best parts are the interviews with musicians – both white and black. These reveal a history in which, despite often growing up in extreme poverty, clinging to their traditional music helped the people and their music to survive. Ann has done a great job here pursuing her passion and searching out hard to find original sources. A must get for all Cajun and Creole fans! (Chris Strachwitz)
