Description
In 1963, German filmmaker Dietrich Wawzyn hired Arhoolie Records founder Chris Strachwitz to take him on a musical tour of America. He produced three films, dealing with blues, gospel, and hillbilly music, but the negatives were later lost. This film chronicles that journey, from the best elements still available, and includes an optional running commentary by Chris Strachwitz. As a document of their journey, it features amazing performances by:
Jesse Fuller; The Goodtime Washboard 3; Barbara Dane; Lowell Fulson; King Louis H. Narcisse; a Tohono O’odham conjunto; the Rev. Louis Overstreet and his sons; Brother Davis of A. A. Allen’s Miracle Revivals; “Spider” Kilpatrick; Ed Lee Natay; Chief White Cloud; Mance Lipscomb; Black Ace; Hop Wilson; Whistlin’ Alex Moore; Sam “Lightnin'” Hopkins; Shorty LeBlanc; Willie Thomas; the George Lewis quartet; “Sweet Emma” Barrett; the Eureka Brass Band; the Hodges Brothers; the Lewis Family; Red Sovine; the Willis Brothers; Blind James Campbell; J. E. Mainer’s Mountaineers; and Eddie Schaible.
TRT: 75 min. In black & white. NTSC, All Regions.
