Description
County CD 3503 / One of the most popular & distinctive country groups of the late 1920’s. Tom Darby & Jimmie Tarlton recorded extensively featuring their bluesy, south Alabama singing and slide guitar. An earlier, long deleted LP on Old-Timey featured more of their blues & rags, while this 17-cut CD concentrates on their more country sound (though it’s just as bluesy as their blues & rag titles!). Superb transfers by Rich Nevins bring out the beauty of these recordings, definitely among the best of the duo’s repertoire and including such gems as LONESOME RAILROAD, LOWE BONNIE, LITTLE OLA, MAPLE ON THE HILL, BLACK SHEEP, LITTLE BESSIE, NEW BIRMINGHAM JAIL, LONESOME FRISCO LINE, ROY DIXON, FRANKIE DEAN, DOWN IN FLORIDA ON A HOG, I LEFT HER AT THE RIVER, etc.
