REVIEWS
“Wearing a sawed-off bottleneck on his 3rd finger Mississippi Fred McDowell created powerfully hypnotic blues and gospel. His style was a direct link to the 1930s blues of Charlie Patton and Son House. This 19-cut CD compiles his best known work… Fred’s guitar style echoes in the music of Bonnie Raitt and the Rolling Stones but his feel and field-holler voice were his and his alone.”
(Jas Obrecht — Guitar Player)
“One of the great exponents of the Mississippi Delta slide guitar style Fred McDowell was in every respect a blues poet of the very first rank. Each tune (is) a kind of short story with a form character and message of its own. This collection is a generous 60+ minutes of the best of McDowell’s work. If you’re looking for the definitive McDowell CD this is it.”
