1925-1928

Document’s alphabetically organized Preachers and Congregations series was coordinated using discographical data drawn from Robert M.W. Dixon and John Godrich’s exhaustively researched Blues and Gospel Records 1890-1943. The seventh and final volume contains two dozen recordings made by four different evangelists whose names began with the letter “W.” Tracks one through five, which include “Better Let That Liar Alone” and “If I Had My Way I’d Tear the Building Down,” were recorded in Atlanta by Reverend T.E. Weems and three members of his congregation in 1927. Document omits five of his originally unissued titles including “Prayer Meeting in Hell” and “The Hoodoo Lost His Hand.” Eight unaccompanied sermons by Reverend W.A. White and four sermons by Deacon A. Wilson with singing by his choir and congregation date from the years 1925-1927. The series closes with four sermons (two of them in two parts) recorded in 1928 by Reverend B.L. Wrightman. Additional participants were Lottie Beaman, vocalist and arranger Winston Holmes, and probably Missionary Josephine Miles and Sister Elizabeth Cooper.
