Description

Pentagrama CD-215. Imported from Mexico.

María Amparo Ochoa Brown, from Culiacan, Sinaloa (29 September 1946 – 8 February 1994) was an influential Mexican singer and songwriter often refered to as “the voice of Mexico”.

Better known as Amparo Ochoa, she belonged to a generation of singers that had its origins in the sixties, and she emerged from the beginning as a major representative of the “Nueva Cancion (New Song)” and Nueva Trova genres, popular in Latin-America during the 60s & 70s. She was also closely connected to the traditional folklore revival movement, Los Folkloristas, at a time when electrified amplified rock and roll music was dominant all over the world.
In her lyrics she often refers to the social gains of the Mexican population, and the fight against poverty and for equal rights for women and indigenous peoples in Latin America.
