Clawhammer Banjo Vol. 1 / County CD-2716
$11.98
County CD-2716 / CLAWHAMMER BANJO—Volume 1 Originally issued on LP in 1965, this was the very first non-reissue album released by County Records. It became one of the keystones in what was to become a significant revival in interest in authentic old-time music, and led to two more volumes of banjo tunes by a number of great, skilled musicians of the Appalachian region. After a lapse of close to 20 years, these important recordings are finally available on CD, newly remastered with additional tracks and with editing and additional notes by Charlie Faurot, who recorded and produced the original LPs. This first volume brought to light two hitherto unknown musicians in Kyle Creed and Fred Cockerham, both now legendary names. In addition, the record contained new cuts by the great Wade Ward, who was already known for his outstanding work for the Library of Congress and Folkways Records. There are 19 tunes here, along with a nice booklet of photos, tunings, etc. This first volume contains such classic performances as JUNE APPLE, DUCKS ON THE MILL POND, SALLY ANN, LONG STEEL RAIL, JOHN LOVER’S GONE, etc.
