Weldon “Juke Boy” Bonner (May 22 1932 – June 29 1978) was not only a remarkable blues poet who spoke from his heart and true life experiences but also an emotional honest dedicated and totally authentic singer of the blues. As a true poet Juke Boy was primarily interested in rendering to listeners his own creations. Here then is the last testament of a fine poet a fine blues singer a man who was haunted by bad luck all his life.

“Bonner sang with a maximum of expression and a minimum of histrionics. His guitar playing and rack-held harmonica work were highly effective. He had a particularly nice feel for backup guitar riffs that set things up perfectly though this is an example of what makes him a little subtle perhaps even for the specialized blues audience. But his strong suit is his songwriting: There are a good half-dozen songs here that deserve to be widely performed. A strong candidate for blues record of the year.”
