Pulsing Louisiana Zydeco: a hot mixture of old Creole French music blended with a shot of R&B and a good portion of Soul and Funk. Their first album.
The Sam Brothers was one of Zydeco’s first “family” bands and took the contemporary Zydeco circuit by storm in the 70’s and 80’s. Their youthful, energetic style made them favorites at festivals and dance halls, and quickly gained them recognition as one of the most talented group of young Zydeco musicians in the area. The Houston-based group was originally put together by their father, accordionist Herbert Sam, and consisted of himself and sons Leon, Carl, Glen, Calvin, and Rodney. Herbert retired in the 70’s and the group took off on their own and became better known as The Sam Brothers Five. Sadly, Herbert passed away on May 21, 2004 at 80 years old.
Recorded in July 1979. Produced by Chris Strachwitz.
